The Lead Accountant is responsible for providing financial control and oversight for general accounting and projects through accurate and timely reporting and analysis. This position requires knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, job cost accounting, and other complex accounting topics. The Lead Accountant is responsible for completion and review of key account reconciliations, maintenance of monthly reconciliation files, and assisting with overall company and consolidated financial deliverables. Additionally, the Lead Accountant is responsible for providing key support and insight to the Corporate Accounting team in the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.
Analyze the selling, general, and administrative expenses of the Company, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and accounting practices while identifying opportunities for optimization and/or cost savings.
Manage accounting and reporting of capital expenditure projects, including progress to budget, assignment of useful lives, and amortization of each on a regular basis.
Participate in the completion of regular budgeting and forecasting cycles of the Company.
Review financial performance of Company's subsidiaries and provide observations to Controller
Execute investment in subsidiary accounting processes on a monthly basis
Review cash inflow and outflow of the Company on a daily basis, maintaining up to date analyses and reports
Serve as a main contact for the audit process, coordinating with the internal team and Controller to gather and provide necessary documentation for external audit purposes.
Ensure the integrity of the general ledger details, control accounts and related subsidiary records by controlling the posting, balancing and verification of balances to the general ledger system.
Prepare and review reconciliations of general ledger accounts to assure completeness and accuracy of financial statements.
Use problem solving skills to independently identify process improvement opportunities and to resolve accounting related issues. Communicate the resolution of any issues to the Controller in a clear and concise manner on a timely basis.
Assist Accounting leadership team with projects as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA designation preferable. Experience within the travel or airline industry a plus.
A minimum of 4 years of accounting related work experience.
Advanced Excel skills, complemented by strong understanding and proficiency with accounting systems.
Ability to apply analytical thinking and ability to communicate this thinking to others in an understandable fashion.
Strong problem solving and decision-making skills with an emphasis in solution development.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding financial, organizational, and personnel information.
Ability to organize work and manage several projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines.
Ability to listen, understand and respond to external and internal customers’ needs in a timely manner; customer service experience in a service-related industry preferred.
Ability to work the time necessary to complete projects and/or meet deadlines.
